    I’ve booked my TDR appointment, what now?

    Once you have booked your first wedding dress appointment with TDR Bridal Birmingham you will receive an email notification with a link to our very own Private Client Portal where you can view all our wedding dresses with their prices and you can favourite the ones that you love, so that your stylist can see the dresses you like before your appointment. This will help prepare you in becoming familiar with the wedding dress styles we have and start giving you an idea of what style you may like! However, it is important to note that if you don’t know what style you like, this is fine!!! Most brides will not know what style they love until they begin trying and until your stylist can begin to guide you through this very new journey… and that is ok. Our advice is to be open-minded!

     

    Who do I bring?

    When shopping for your wedding dress is it important to bring those with you that will help you make the important decision of choosing your dress. Often, you can feel as though you don’t want to ‘leave anybody out’ and we completely get this, this is a new journey for you and you want to make sure everyone is involved BUT, it is so important to remember that this is YOUR day, YOUR dress and you must choose the dress that feels right for YOU and YOU only. When bringing an entourage of people, often there can be an overwhelming amount of opinions and it can be difficult to stay focused and be in touch with your feelings, so it is our advice to think very wisely about who you choose to bring with you.
    However, we do offer an ‘open door policy’ here at TDR which means you can visit us as many times as you like to try on your dress, so you are more than welcome to bring your friends, family, bridesmaids etc. to TDR Bridal Birmingham to show off your gorgeous dress, once you have chosen!

     

    Set a budget!

    Every single bride has a budget and no matter what this is, it’s still very important to set this, so that you have something to stick to. Your stylist will want you to communicate this budget with them so that when they are choosing gowns for you, they can be respectful of your budget, the last thing we want to do is pick a gown out of your price range.
    Just to give you an idea of pricing, our dress prices start at around £800 and go up to £3500 with the average price of our dresses are £1500-£1800. Alterations are always a separate charge on top of the price of your dress, so always allow for this within your budget!

    Sizing

    Please don’t worry about sample sizing, we are an inclusive bridal shop and ensure our sample sizes range from size 8 to size 32, with over 80 dresses Size 18 and above, so we really do have every style from sleeved to low-back to long train wedding dresses to fitted to princess ball gowns, all in a wide variety of sizes. You must also remember that these samples are just for you to try on, not the actual dress you buy. The process for sizing is that we will measure you and order your dress to your nearest size, we have dress clamps, pins and panels to ensure we can fit you into our sample as best as possible so you can visualize your dress!

    Who will help me?

    We have over 600 beautiful wedding gowns in store and it can feel extremely overwhelming when you first begin, some brides either relish in the opportunity to have so many dresses to try on, however, there are other brides that will feel quite daunted by this and not know where to start, but this is what your stylist is there for! Again, we know this is a new experience for our brides, this is why our advice is to let your stylist guide you. Start by choosing the dresses that stand out to you, try different styles (even just to rule certain styles out) and then, by this stage, your stylist will have begun understanding your style preferences, needs and how to dress your body and you will be amazed at how easy this process becomes.

    Let’s Talk Underwear

    There is no set rule to underwear, but our recommendation is nude, seamless underwear. You can opt for a strapless bra, however, this is usually not required when trying dresses on as most bridal gowns will already have a built-in bra.

    What if I don’t know what I like?

    If you are a bride that has scrolled the internet to try and find your perfect style but still hasn’t got an idea of what style to go for, how to fit your style in with your venue.
    what shape will suit your body etc. THIS IS NORMAL! It is totally fine to feel this way, sometimes this is often better. Sometimes brides can get fixated on a certain style of dress and when they try this style on, it may not particularly suit them and they struggle with this concept, so, our advice is to always be open minded, be open to trying new styles and be open to taking advice from your stylist.

    Will I buy on my first appointment?

    Hopefully! It is 100% completely normal to find your dress on your first appointment, we have well-trained, experienced stylists that know exactly how to guide you through the process of finding your gown during your appointment time. Do not be scared by this thought! The fact we have over 400 gowns in store is a huge bonus to our brides, as it means we are like 5 shops in 1! We have carefully selected gowns in store, in all sizes, styles and themes, there is literally a dress for every single bride.

    • We are always on hand to support our brides through their journey even after they’ve said yes, through the packages we offer, which means the gown and bride are looked after, right up to the moment they walk down the aisle. We lovingly steam, press, and pack the gown ready for the big day, including storage and insurance. With the platinum package, they can bring their dress back to us, and we steam and clean it and wrap it in a beautiful ivory box with acid free tissue to protect it for years to come.
    • We are easy to contact – an email, phone call or text away! Nothing is too much trouble which is what sets up apart from the rest. We genuinely care about doing things differently.
    • There are different appointment types that we offer. A bridal appointment is 2 hours, a comeback (bride who couldn’t decide 1st visit) 1-hour, Accessory appointment, (to find the perfect veil and headwear) 1 hour, To try their own dress on for the first time (first try-on) 1 hour.
    • We do not limit the number of guests that can attend; however, we would advise 2-3 of the closest friends/family to help support and encourage.
    • The bride doesn’t need to bring or wear anything specific, just what feels comfortable! We also don’t stop the bride from wearing make-up, should she wish. The aim is for the bride to feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
    • TDR Bridal offers so much more than ordinary bridal boutiques. We have free on-site parking, we are open seven days a week – and three evenings, too, we have unrivalled customer service, offer safe storage of your dress until the big day, truly wonderful staff, incredible wedding dresses (with over 600 to choose from), in-house seamstresses and we are easy to access from Birmingham city centre, as well as the M5.
    • Flexible ways to pay. You can pay a 50% deposit on the dress, and the balance when your dress arrives in store. Alternatively, you can pay a 10% deposit and spread the balance over 10 monthly instalments.

    Once you have booked your first wedding dress appointment with TDR Bridal Birmingham you will receive an email notification with a link to our very own Private Client Portal where you can view all our wedding dresses with their prices and you can favourite the ones that you love, so that your stylist can see the dresses you like before your appointment. This will help prepare you in becoming familiar with the wedding dress styles we have and start giving you an idea of what style you may like! However, it is important to note that if you don’t know what style you like, this is fine!!! Most brides will not know what style they love until they begin trying and until your stylist can begin to guide you through this very new journey… and that is ok. Our advice is to be open-minded!

    Who to bring?

    When shopping for your wedding dress is it really important to bring those with you that will help you make the important decision of choosing your dress. Often, you can feel as though you don’t want to ‘leave anybody out’ and we completely get this, this is a new journey for you and you want to make sure everyone is involved BUT, it is so important to remember that this is YOUR day, YOUR dress and you must choose the dress that feels right for YOU and YOU only. When bringing an entourage of people, often there can be an overwhelming amount of opinions and it can be really difficult to stay focused and be in touch with your feelings, so it is our advice to think very wisely about who you choose to bring with you.

    However, we do offer an ‘open door policy’ here at TDR which means you can visit us as many times as you like to try on your dress, so you are more than welcome to bring your friends, family, bridesmaids etc. to TDR Bridal Birmingham to show off your gorgeous dress, once you have chosen!

    Let’s Talk Underwear

    There is no set rule to underwear, but our recommendation is nude, seamless underwear. You can opt for a strapless bra, however, this is usually not required when trying dresses on as most bridal gowns will already have a built-in bra.

     

    Set a budget – don’t hide this!

    Every single bride has a budget and no matter what this is, it’s still very important to set this, so that you have something to stick to. Your stylist will want you to communicate this budget with them so that when they are choosing gowns for you, they can be respectful of your budget, the last thing we want to do is pick a gown out of your price range.
    Just to give you an idea of pricing, our dress prices start at around £800 and go up to £3500 with the average price of our dresses are £1500-£1800. Alterations are always a separate charge on top of the price of your dress, so always allow for this within your budget!

    Sizing

    Please don’t worry about sample sizing, we are an inclusive bridal shop and ensure our sample sizes range from size 8 to size 32, with over 80 dresses Size 18 and above, so we really do have every style from sleeved to low-back to long train wedding dresses to fitted to princess ball gowns, all in a wide variety of sizes. You must also remember that these samples are just for you to try on, not the actual dress you buy. The process for sizing is that we will measure you and order your dress to your nearest size, we have dress clamps, pins and panels to ensure we can fit you into our sample as best as possible so you can visualize your dress!

    Who will help me?

    We have over 400 gowns in store and it can feel extremely overwhelming when you first begin, some brides either relish in the opportunity to have so many dresses to try on, however, there are other brides that will feel quite daunted by this and not know where to start, but this is what your stylist is there for! Again, we know this is a new experience for our brides, this is why our advice is to let your stylist guide you. Start by choosing the dresses that stand out to you, try different styles (even just to rule certain styles out) and then, by this stage, your stylist will have begun understanding your style preferences, needs and how to dress your body and you will be amazed at how easy this process becomes.

    What if I don’t know what I like?

    If you are a bride that has scrolled the internet to try and find your perfect style but still hasn’t got an idea of what style to go for, how to fit your style in with your venue.
    what shape will suit your body etc. THIS IS NORMAL! It is absolutely fine to feel this way, sometimes this is often better. Sometimes brides can get fixated on a certain style of dress and when they try this style on, it may not particularly suit them and they struggle with this concept, so, our advice is to always be open minded, be open to trying new styles and be open to taking advice from your stylist.

    Hopefully! It is 100% completely normal to find your dress on your first appointment, we have well-trained, experienced stylists that know exactly how to guide you through the process of finding your gown during your appointment time. Do not be scared by this thought! The fact we have over 400 gowns in store is a huge bonus to our brides, as it means we are like 5 shops in 1! We have carefully selected gowns in store, in all sizes, styles and themes, there is literally a dress for every single bride.

    Planning a wedding is expensive, so it’s extremely important to know your budgets, know where you can spend and know where you need to be careful. To give you an idea, our average wedding dress is between £1500-£2000 and this will usually be the same at most bridal boutiques. £635 is a starting point at TDR, unless you are looking to purchase a ‘ready to wear’ (otherwise known as ‘off the rail’).

    Reviews are SO important, transparency is key within bridal. You are planning the most important day of your life and you are putting a lot of trust in your suppliers, so make sure you are choosing the right ones. Have a look out for preferred suppliers, for example, if you have chosen your venue, have a look to see who their suppliers are, as this will often indicate who you should research more. Pinterest is always good, but not always real, you’ve probably seen the quote “I hope my real wedding is as good as my Pinterest wedding’. It will often be better to have a look on bridal retailers own websites, to see their stock and then further research their designers.

    It’s time to start your wedding dress shopping! we always recommend that you do your dress shopping within 4 weeks – this way, you avoid finding your dress, then finding out weeks later the dress has been discontinued (is no longer being manufactured). On average, a dress takes around 6-9 months to arrive in store, so ordering 18-12 months before gives you plenty of time to fit in all the other appointments you will need to add in any alterations around your busy wedding planning schedule.

    By now your dress MUST be ordered, otherwise you are risking either having to pay an added rush cut fee to ensure the dress arrives in time, or simply designers refusing the order. Most bridal retailers, including TDR, will ask for a 50% deposit to be placed, the remaining balance is due when your dress arrives in store.

    We usually advise that your fittings between 4-6 weeks before your wedding. This depends on the time of year, during busy season May-September, it will usually be 6 weeks before. It also depends on whether you are losing weight and want your fittings as close to your wedding date as possible. Alterations are usually a separate charge to the cost of your wedding gown. Remember that by now you must have the shoes and underwear you will be wearing on your wedding date.

    It’s time to pick up your dress! If you are getting married abroad then your bridal boutique should have a system in place where they can pack your dress into a flight box. When transporting your dress, make sure you have room in your car, ideally lying across a flat surface, unfolded. It is important to take your dress out of the dress back as soon as you can, without having to repack this yourself, hang your dress up high so the train is lying flat. Top tip – if there are any creases, DO NOT STEP NEAR AN IRON. Stick your shower on really hot and hang the dress up. The steam will let the creases drop out from your dress.

    Ok so here’s the thing… every bridal shop has a radius of exclusivity on each dress label they carry. Depending on the Label, it can be as little as a five-mile radius up to a 25-mile range on more exclusive brands. So, based on that, it is much better to choose to visit shops within a five-mile radius of each other. That way, you get to see lots of different designers, labels and brands & styles.

If you have planned to visit a bridal shop that has no reviews anywhere on the web, then you MUST ask yourself why? Do not be fooled by glossy websites and lots of google listings if there are no genuine reviews online to back that up. Honesty and transparency are absolutely imperative when it comes to your wedding dress.

    Are the bridal shops you are choosing in any association or affiliation?

    There is only one association in the bridal industry which is worth its salt, and that is the Retail Bridalwear Association or RBA. This is the only association that inspects its member’s stores & accounts, has a strict code of conduct, checks out the shop’s suppliers and credit status, plus has the added bonus of the Brides Protection Scheme. It’s the same as buying your honeymoon from an ATOL or ABTA registered travel agent. Don’t get hoodwinked by other “Associations” such as the BBRA, this is absolutely NOT the same.

    Visit no more than three bridal shops.

     

    An excellent bridal shop should have at least 150 different styles in store (we have around 300), so if you visit three good shops, then you have had access to at least 450 and potentially 1000 different styles.     Check the location of your shops and their opening hours.

     

    Will the locations work for you later on, once you have ordered your dress? Is it easily accessible for fittings? Is there a car park? What days are they open, do they offer a late-night appointment? You need to know all this information BEFORE you go into a bridal shop. If the location and opening hours are not going to work for you, then there is no point visiting. Find shops which are convenient for you and your lifestyle.

    Don’t be frightened to make your decision.

     

    Most brides instinctively know when they have found “the one”, pretty much the same as the man! You just know it’s right. However, if you are indecisive and worried about committing to buying, you really shouldn’t be. Statistics show that only over 70% of all brides find their dress in the first bridal shop they visit. We have so many brides who LOVE LOVE LOVE the dress, then say, oh but I can’t buy just-in-case I see something else. The fact is you will always see something else, of course, you will, but there has to come to a point where you say “you know what, I’m sticking with this one” just like the man, there are millions out there, and you could just keep on looking… forever!

    Know your finances.

    If you are going dress shopping, be prepared to buy. Don’t treat wedding dress shopping as just a happy day out because that mindset will not help you to find “the one” you will only become confused, disheartened and ultimately stressed. So many brides are amazed when they see their dress at the first shop they visit, but why? For instance, if you are going to Jimmy Choo London to buy a pair of shoes, why would you be surprised to find them at Jimmy Choo? Have a clear understanding of your budget and discuss this if you need to with each shop before you book to visit them.

    After Service.

     

    Again, this is about doing your homework on each shop you plan to visit. Do they offer free storage? Do they have an “in-house” alteration service? Will they steam, prep and pack your dress for you? Do they offer a delivery service? These are all essential things you need to know.

    What have you been up to since we spoke last year? Have there been any major changes at TDR?
    We have lots of major developments ahead of us this year, that we are keeping under wraps for now, all we can say is WATCH THIS SPACE it is going to be HUGE!

    Do you offer any specialised appointments? Afternoon tea, fizz etc?
    Every appointment is VIP at TDR! We don’t do exclusives, it’s just not our style. We celebrate every single bride who walks through our door, every single bride is important to us and deserves the experience they had always dreamed of! So that means lots of fizz and lots of fun, every time, for every bride!

    Do brides have to pay for appointments?
    No, absolutely not! We do not believe in paying for appointments, every bride is important to us and why should they have to pay for the experience? It is what they deserve, and every bride should be allowed to enjoy these life moments without having to pay.

    We loved your diverse Instagram post of your wheelchair wedding dress, can you tell us more about how that came about and what the response was?
    Thank you! It is incredibly important to consider the experience of each and every bride that comes into store, that be of different races, genders, sizes and disabilities, visible or not. We know, the bridal industry needs to do more and that sadly, some believe inclusivity isn’t always luxurious, however, despite this, it is indeed a necessity.

    The response was amazing and since then, we have been introducing more strategies in store, such as the team learning British Sign Language, which has had such a huge impact! We even had a bride message last week to say she “cancelled her first dress appointment because of the anxiety of being deaf and having to communicate” and seeing that we were BSL trained made her feel so much better, even it if is only a few signs! She has now rebooked with us and we cannot wait to help her first her dream dress!

    How were things for you during covid? And how have you recovered? How are things now?
    Believe it or not, during lockdown we were very busy! We used this time to really get ahead of ourselves in terms of marketing and forward-planning. We decided that to close completely, was just not an option, so we operated from home, replying to emails, answering calls and essentially continuing the majority of our behind the scenes work. We know during this time our brides really needed us for some support and guidance as it was a tricky time for everyone. We used our social media platform to spread positivity for our brides during lockdown, we started doing our live videos once a week for our brides to watch, which from the feedback we received, really kept them going!

    Now, we are BUSIER THAN EVER and are looking forward to a very busy, successful year for TDR and our brides.

    Do you prefer working with brides who come in knowing what they want or those who have no idea?
    There is no right or wrong way to feel before you begin your wedding dress shopping, some brides know exactly what they want and will not change their mind once they begin trying on our gowns and others have completely no idea where to start, either is ‘normal’ and we love the experience with each bride no matter what. The main thing for us is finding every bride their dream dress, and once we get to that point it doesn’t matter where we started!

    What are the hot trends at TDR right now?
    Hot trends for us right now are Less is More. We are seeing an increase in brides loving square, modest necklines, with a simple, clean line skirt. We are also seeing an increase in 3D detailing, puff sleeves and princess style wedding gowns!

    Our standard posting regime for social media includes x5 posts every single day and multiple story posts, this ensures our followers feel we are interactive, always providing new, exciting content, so we can offer inspiration to our followers. Social media is our first go to when we are announcing competitions, events, discounts etc. so in order to be the first to know about each of these, you must be following our accounts!

    What would you like to see more of from the Morilee brand?
    REAL BRIDES! We know, from our own research, that brides want to see REAL BRIDES not unrealistic models, we want REAL, it is as simple as that.
