Lockdown Proposals

Lockdown has certainly posed challenges for any couples planning their wedding, including those planned proposals, whether it be where you first met or on a beach somewhere exotic. But… do not panic! Your engagement will still go ahead and it will be even more special than you could ever have imagined.

Whilst lockdown has most definitely had its challenges, it has definitely made so many couples realise how much they love spending time together, because let’s face it, we have truly never spent this much time together before!

However, lockdown proposals have shown that love truly isn’t cancelled and it causing a surge in the most thoughtful, nostalgic and imaginative proposal ideas that we have fallen in love with!

We recently ran an engagement competition on our social media pages, asking brides-to-be to share their engagement stories with us for a chance to win 20% off a wedding gown at TDR Bridal. We are absolutely stunned with the stories we received, we just had to share!

Woodland Engagement!

Where do we start?! This is truly one of the most gorgeous engagements we have ever seen! Literally every girls dream proposal!

James hired the amazing team from @ornatemoments in to create the most incredible setup for his proposal and my gosh, did they do an incredible job! From the fresh flowers, to the personalised messages, her favourite sweet treats and even making the tepee from scratch on the day, to fit the theme! Not only this…but they setup two cameras on tripods to record the proposal and hid behind the bushes to capture the special moment! Turning into not only stylists…but photographers too!

“This day will stay with me for the rest of my life and I wish I could relive it over and over again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I remember walking into that hut that evening and feeling like it was a dream. I’ll never forget standing there shaking from head to toe, crying hysterically with happiness. Every time I looked down at my ring I cried. It still feels surreal now. I will never forget what James said to me in that moment and waking up the next day feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. It was pure magic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What a beautiful proposal! This was such a special moment that Millie and James were able to share together, in the beauty of the outdoors with the most incredible setup. They then spent the evening under the stars watching a video of all their memories together. It doesn’t get much more magical than that!

Lockdown Proposals – Jade and Nathan

30th Birthday Engagement

Isn’t this the most amazing 30th birthday gift any girl could wish for! Although Nathan had originally planned to propose to Jade on a beach in Jamaica, but as lockdown restrictions put a stop to this, he improvised with what we think is the most romantic idea. Only a few hours into her 30th birthday, Jade was surprised with the most GORGEOUS engagement ring! What a way to transform a lockdown birthday.

“My boyfriend who I met 12 years ago proposed on my 30th birthday in November ❤️ safe to say I thought the day would never come!! He’d been planning it since the summer and we were meant to be in Jamaica with my family, so it would probably have been a beach sort of proposal.. In the end we spent my 30th in lockdown and I got the shock of my life! Definitely ugly cried for a good 15 minutes and then celebrated with lots of champagne and spent the day in a hot tub he’d hired for the occasion 😍 such a perfect day! Currently searching for our venue for a summer 2022 wedding ❤️”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Lockdown Proposals – Laren and Michael

Now this is truly one excited bride to be who is completely besotted after her beautiful proposal! Michael had to change their proposal plans 3 times due to lockdown, firstly it was meant to be in Italy, then it changed to a lodge in Wales, then a hot tub break in Nottingham… when finally, it ended up happening during an afternoon walk at a local country park.

“My other half mike arranged our engagement 3 times during 2020 without me knowing and because of COVID-19 his plans got cancelled every time. First Italy, then a lodge in wales and then a hot tub break in Nottingham… after the final trip got cancelled he opted the next day to suggest going for an afternoon walk… he ended up taking me to Waseley Hills near Romsley, we walked around (it’s the place where he first told me he loved me and has a special place in my heart) He got me to have my photo took facing the view and when I turned around he was down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. It ended up perfect despite all his broken plans ♥️💍 he deserves a special mention 🥰 @mh11cal love you ♥️”

Lockdown life has allowed us to find the comfort in spending time together, appreciating the world around us and appreciating every moment. This gorgeous proposal proves exactly that! Just beautiful. Congratulations Lauren and Michael, we truly loved your story!

Lockdown Proposals – Olivia and Dan

Another absolutely gorgeous story that the girls here at TDR have completely fallen in love with! From an engagement that was planned for the gorgeous Middleton lodge, that turned into a countryside walk with one of their dogs! The most memorable thing for us about this engagement story, is that Olivia now wears her mum’s original engagement ring, whom she lost last December.

“We got engaged the first weekend of November. Apparently, it had been planned since July as we were supposed to be at @middletonlodge however Boris announced lockdown the weekend before and it was cancelled. I thought my OH was just annoyed because he had been looking forward to a break 🤭
We went for a walk in the countryside where we used to live with one of our dogs. His planned place had a group of walkers eating sarnies so in the end (according to him!) it was Plan C location. He asked with my Mum’s original engagement ring which meant a lot as we lost her suddenly the December before.
We booked our venue yesterday which was ‘Plan A’ and where we ‘should’ have got engaged 🥰💍”

This is such a memorable engagement story that truly captures what love really is!

What we can truly learn from these gorgeous lockdown proposals is that LOVE IS NOT CANCELLED and NOTHING can get in the way of the perfect engagement story! Christina’s Proposal Story…

It was Sunday September 11th 2016 and we was in Church Stretton having some lunch. Owen hardly ate anything but I thought it was because he was bit hung over from the night before! He then said we’re going for a walk to Carding Mill Valley and I remember moaning because I didn’t have the right footwear on as it was bit muddy along the hills and stream. Luckily he had my wellington boots ready in the car!

I know why now! It felt like a long walk to the top where he said there was a little waterfall and I had to keep stopping as I was getting tired 😂 we got to the top and I was taking photos and he turned to me next to the waterfall, grabbed both my hands and I just knew. I knew he was going to ask me and I cried so much! He said lovely words to me and then got on one knee and said my full name whilst asking me to marry him ❤️😍

Proposal Story – Katie from Staffordshire

Katie’s Proposal Story…

My partner bought me a trip to Prague for my birthday in September 2016. We were waiting on completion of our new home which got put back to the 16th December and we flew to Prague the next day, so we were both a bit apprehensive that we could do it all in one weekend and before Christmas came. We headed off on the 17th.

The city was amazing, definitely recommend it to anyone especially at Christmas time. It was just magical.  On the Saturday night we were doing a bit of exploring and I saw a beautiful jewellery shop … of course as ladies do…I was automatically drawn to it with boyfriend in hand. I made a comment pointing to a ring that I hope one day I’ll get one of those, we had been together for seven years. He reassured me that he would but not just yet as we’d only just moved in and there was a lot of money to pay out etc.

So on the Sunday off we went on a walking tour of Prague with a guide and a small group of other people of different nationalities. The day turned out to be a bit dreary but the tour was brilliant. We headed up to Prague castle and the tour guide explained that there were some security checks first before we could go inside. So we got in the very long queue for only then my partner to decide he wanted a picture infront of the gates. I told him we could get one after because we’ll lose our place in the queue but no he was very insistent. So after being the stubborn person that I am I gave in and walked up to the castle gates. I turned round and the next minute he’s on one knee with this stunning ring in his hand. I didn’t listen to a word he said because I was so overwhelmed and all I could hear were people clapping and cheering. We then had to rejoin the tour for another 10 minutes which obviously went over my head.

The funny thing was this wasn’t his plan at all ..He set it up with my Dad to do it at a particular time so my Dad was at home with my Mum because she was unaware of everything but because of the security checks he didn’t daren’t risk it in case I saw the ring he’d been hiding all day in his pocket of the jacket.

How I didn’t click in that he kept moving me to his right side all day and wouldn’t fasten his coat up because it wasn’t stylish yet it was blooming freezing but really it was because you’d see the outline of a box if he did! I was over the moon. Fortunately two American tourists took a picture off us too so we’ve got the actual moment captured.

Amy’s Proposal Story…

We had just celebrated our year anniversary in Blackpool…for the weekend… nothing no ring…one week later was my partners dads anniversary so after work we went to the grave to lay some flowers but Dave was faffing in the car…one minute he says there’s people coming 🙄 hurry up Dave… so we got out and lay the flowers and the rubbish was blowing away he said pick that up…I said no…you do it. I then turned around and there he was on one knee…will you marry me? My instant reply was get up! 😂 so he asked me again will you marry me…I said yes of course I will  But please get up!

At the time I was about 12 weeks pregnant suffering from hyperemesis so he popped the ring on my finger to me gagging not trying to be sick! But I wouldn’t of wanted to do anything different he asked my dads permission and he wanted his dad to be there too!! 5 years later we have two beautiful boys! And will be getting married in August! I know our wedding day will be wonderful but sad that his dad won’t be there but I’ll know he would be there in spirit

Heather’s Proposal Story…

I was coming to the end of my first year at Cambridge University. For weeks I had been looking forward to ‘May Week’ (a huge tradition in Cambridge where each college holds a formal ball for students to celebrate the end of the year), my mum and I had gone dress shopping for a knock out outfit and I couldn’t wait for what was set to be a magical night.

My fiancé, Jon, travelled down on the morning of the ball and surprised me by telling me that my parents had booked us a room at this beautiful hotel in Cambridge! When we arrived, the receptionist gave us a bottle of champagne and we even had strawberries in the room, explaining that it was part of the deal that my parents had got, I felt so lucky. We got ready for the ball and arrived in style. I felt a million dollars, however Jon had fallen decidedly quiet. He was barely eating, had nothing to drink and said he had an awful headache, I was devastated that he had fallen ill on such a magical evening!

Just before midnight, the main act of the night, James Bay took to the stage and Jon asked if we could stand at the back, away from the crowds as he was feeling ill. However, during James Bays set, Jon got on one knee and popped the question! I was absolutely overcome with emotion and could barely get my words out through the tears of happiness! We phoned around our family (who had know about the WHOLE thing for over 4 months – hence the fancy hotel and champagne!) And danced the night away, Jon’s mystery illness soon disappeared (definitely brought on by nerves!).

The next day, when we returned to my uni digs, my friends had left bridal magazines and chocolates under my door, EVERYONE had known except me (still something that impresses me to this day 😂). It was a magical, unforgettable evening, and one that I will never ever forget. My boy did good ❤

Laura’s Proposal Story…

It was a Sunday morning the day after I did Race for Life at home. He got up first to cook me breakfast to help me recover & as a treat. I came down about 15mins later and hadn’t noticed he’d cleared the kitchen table but as I was sore went and sat on the sofa in the lounge watching come dine with me. He brought the food in (sausage, bacon, egg, avocado & homemade hash brown) and cleared the coffee table. Then put the plates to one side, paused the tv and said “you’ve probably guessed what I’m doing” I hadn’t a clue!

He had told the night before when we went out for a special meal it would be another 6 months before he got down on one knee and told me how I was the one got him and would I marry him. I said yes through my tears. Oh breakfast went cold calling people. Should have clocked as he bought 2 bottles of prosecco to congratulate me on the run.

Jade’s Proposal Story…

We were in Amsterdam and josh asked to go for a walk along the canals. In my head I was thinking “why!! It’s bloody freezing!” But I went along with it. We got to this bridge and I asked him to take a picture of me and I wasn’t happy so he had to take another one and he wasn’t impressed! 😂 so as I’m checking my pictures. He tells me he loves me and I said yes love I know and he replied.. “no really love you” and I turned and said “yes josh!” And he was on one knee.. and that’s when he asked me.. 😍 I then went to the floor with him! And asked if he was joking!! It was amazing, I can’t describe the feeling ❤ only us two would be sat on the floor during a special moment 😂

Proposal Story – Ali Common from Halesowen

Ali’s Proposal Story…

We too were on holiday on a road trip across Spain. The back story makes it a bit more special for me as we had been together for 6 years like others and my fiancé had been anti marriage for our whole relationship so I had no expectations of marriage whatsoever!

We were staying over in Segovia for one night and after a long day of walking all along their famous aquaduct, we planned to relax on the hotel rooftop which was billed as a rooftop terrace overlooking the aquaduct. Turns out it was just a roof, but we dragged chairs up there anyway. My fiancé said he was off to get us some drinks, whilst I was blissfully unaware, he disappeared for a while only to find the hotel had no bar so then raced out into the village to find a shop with champagne, then try and explain to a waitress in a restaurant in the middle of rural Spain that he wanted to buy/borrow champagne flutes.

He ended up having to get down on one knee to the waitress to try and show her what he meant so we still joke that he proposed to the waitress before asking me! He then arrived back on the roof with the receptionist hidden behind him armed with a camera who really captured the moment, which was essentially shock!

Proposal Story – Victoria Anna from Kidderminster

Victoria Anna from Kidderminster, who said yes on Friday 27^th October 2017

As many of you may already know, once you are a TDR Bride, you join our family! We have our private Facebook group for TDR BRIDES ONLY, we chat every single day, we laugh, we cry and most importantly we support each other along every single step of the way and it is just beautiful!

So, to get to know our brides and their fiancé’s a little more, we asked them to share their proposal story and many of them, so kindly did! And WOW…we were definitely brought to tears with some of these stories, they are absolutely beautiful and we would LOVE to share them with you!

Victoria’s Proposal Story…

It was 10th December 2016 & we were in my home town of Halifax celebrating Christmas with my family (& his parents) as we were going on a cruise for Christmas.

Whilst waiting for our desserts, my Dad did a speech wishing everyone Merry Christmas & then my fiancé stood up & not long after said “Vicki told me the other day that we have been together 6 years.” (Everyone cheered 🤣) Then he said “anyone who can put up with me for that long deserves a medal…..or a ring!!” & then he got down on one knee! 😍😍 😍
