Whimsical Romance – Dreamy Wedding Styling Inspiration

Venue

The stunning ceremony room at Glewstone Court has two big beautiful arched windows that are the main feature of the room, creating a huge impact and perfect for a marriage ceremony to take place. I wanted to create a light and airy feel using the light flooding from the windows. Working closely with the team we wanted to create a ceremony with a go big or go home statement.

Styling and Florals

Both the styling and florals were created by Etiquette Event Styling. The vision for the ceremony was ‘whimsical romance’ with florals being a big part of the show. For the aisle styling we wanted to take a classic colour scheme but give it a modern twist with the focus being on impactful asymmetric arrangements and minimal foliage. With the addition of a suspended waterfall garland, the room was softened to create an intimate and romantic space. For added warmth, we picked out the tones of the florals by using soft pink and mauve hues in our candlelight. All of these elements were tied together with the use of rich textures in our ruched draping and patterned rugs.

Dresses

The Bride wears two dresses in this shoot. The first dress is a beautiful Jolie Berta style 22 – J09 A line glittery and shimmery dress with a structured cuppa corset and tulle bow sitting on the shoulders, available from award-winning bridal boutique TDR Bridal Birmingham. I chose this dress for the shimmery look that would catch the light and it fit perfect with a modern whimsical feel.

The second gown was the stunning Danica dress from Badgley Mischka, also available at TDR Bridal Birmingham. The Danica gown features jaw-dropping sequin tulle cape sleeves that run past its train. Embellished with subtle sparkle, the detachable cape sleeves gorgeously cascade down from the romantic off-shoulder sleeves. A classic mermaid silhouette with all-over floral lace accompanied with dazzling glitter lining, this gown created the perfect feel to the shoot, the Bride looked totally flawless and is sure to leave guests speechless.

Suits

I needed a suit to tie in with this softer look and colour scheme. The Venice Lounge Suit from TDR Menswear was the perfect fit. A smart, stylish beige coloured Lounge suit is a classic design with a modern fit, ideal for today’s discerning groom. Ideal for weddings abroad or to tie in with your colour theme.

Make up

Michelle G Makeup Artist went with pink tones on the lips with Oriflamme and soft smokey browns on the eyes by Dior. To compliment the Brides beautiful skin she used Charlotte Tilbury and YSL. The whole look encompasses natural, beautiful and classy makeup something that never goes out of fashion.

Hair

Charlotte Holder Hair was inspired to create a beautiful boho, full and romantic half up hairstyle with soft waves and using a loose braid technique, which helped to create texture and a light airy volume to the hair working perfectly for the Jolie Berta gown.

For the second look with the Badgley Mischka dress, the hair was let down into soft waves that tumbled over the Bride’s back and shoulders, and sitting perfectly with the low cut romantic off-shoulder neck line of the dress. Both styles flowed beautifully with the dresses, and hair accessories were chosen to finish the looks perfectly.

Accessories

There were two dresses for the whimsical look, with the gowns full of sparkle and pretty detailing, Becky from Laurel Lime Bridal Accessories wanted the accessories to be a little more playful. She chose a large hair vine of flowers for the Jolie Berta dress as a finishing touch to the beautiful tulle bow shoulders and to add a little interest, little sprigs of handmade baby’s breath pins were popped into the braid.
For the second Badgley Mischka dress, a crown of large decorative flowers with delicate gold leaf accents. A more seductive piece paired with flowing ivory floral earrings to complete the look.

Cake

Using layered neutrals, Vanessa from The Sparkling Spatula created a textured canvas over both tiers. Flecked with glitzy gold, this brought an eye catching effect to the cake overall. Dramatic blush wafer sails edged with gold were added in a natural, offset cluster to draw in the eye and provide a modern yet timeless look to the cake overall and fitted perfectly with the colour scheme and feel of the shoot.

Stationery

Amber from Love Flora Studio designed some invites that fit with the modern side of the shoot. I received Ambers Paloma and Luna collection inspired by classic calligraphy, modern elegance at its finest. These gorgeous invites lay beautifully in the flat lays along with other Bridal prep details.

Jo Ager from Iris & Ivy Photography, a West Midlands-based photographer known for her relaxed, natural photography, is behind the concept of this beautiful shoot.

She says: “My idea for this concept was based around a modern luxe style meets fine art for the modern day couple. Keeping with a very simple and sleek modern style with added elements of romance and elegance.

To define the style Etiquette Event Styling brought this vision to life by touching on timeless florals using foliage and ivories but with a twist that oozes modern chic. The table was layered with textiles that draped down the one end of the table to give a fine art luxury feel. The use of gold against a neutral palette of grey worked as a sophisticated colour pop lining all the plates, glassware and cutlery. The lit candles finished the look adding an air of romance.

From the modern elegant style of the dress and tux to the sleek hair and make up, the simplicity of the stationary and the cake. All these elements helped create this timeless look ending with an ever so popular champagne tower.

Dresses

The bride wears Style 88258 by Justin Alexander from award-winning bridal boutique TDR Bridal Birmingham, which features airy chiffon to create a dreamy A-line wedding dress. Skilful hand-pleating details the plunging V-neckline and continues along the waistline to accentuate the bride’s figure. Vintage inspired bishop sleeves add a stylish touch to this romantic look and tie-in with pleated cuffs. The style is complete with an invisible zipper and chapel length train.

Suits
The groom wears a modern black tux giving a sleek, timeless, and sophisticated look along with a classic black bow tie and black patent shoes.

Make up
Michelle G Makeup Artist went for a flawless look, glowing and just timeless elegant makeup which complimented the dress and worked fitted perfectly with this modern but romantic style. Michelle used Charlotte Tilbury and YSL on the skin, Dior eye shadow, Oriflame lipstick, Tom Ford bronzer and Hourglass highlighter.

Hair
Charlotte of Charlotte Holder hair knew the hair style had to be clean, elegant and sleek as the dress style and neckline determined this. Charlotte decided on a sleek ponytail showing off Lexi’s beautiful face but also drawing the eye down the back of the dress to the low V neckline. Modern and bang on trend.

Accessories
When I gave Laurel Lime the brief, Becky knew her accessories would fit perfectly with the soft dreamy chiffon fabric and beautiful floating sleeves. The accessories needed to be simple and feminine, with a natural element to them. Becky designed and sculpted large clay flowers, set them onto hairpins with freshwater pearl centres, and coordinated them with freshwater
pearl drop earrings.

Cake
I asked Vanessa from The Sparkling Spatula to make an utterly stunning cake that would blend into the gorgeous surroundings. This meant paring back on details – Vanessa went for super tall tiers with a white blank canvas, and added a modern touch with a clear acrylic separator tier. A touch of gold geometric design brought minimalistic glamour and the modern floral cluster matched the florals of the overall decor to tie everything together.

I asked Amber from Love Flora Studio to design some invites, menus and guest name cards that fit with the sleek and modern side of the shoot. I received Ambers Paloma collection inspired by classic calligraphy, modern elegance at its finest.

Videography
I asked Sam & Pippa from PRSPR Films to join the shoot as I knew their beautiful cinematic films would finish the shoot off perfectly.”

Our Inspiration

Rebecca Baddeley, Director of TDR Bridal Birmingham took the lead. She says “The concept around this photoshoot was Grand Victorian opulence meets modern day bridal fashion and beauty. Inspiration was taken from the absolutely stunning, one-of-a-kind, Grand Ballroom at The Grand Hotel Birmingham. With its Louis XIV-Style, beautifully refurbished décor, it’s grandeur and its double-height windows not to mention the semi-private balcony and original art deco golden chandeliers, these beautiful elements all add to the sense of occasion, making this the spotlight of the photoshoot! There really isn’t anything else like it in the Midlands. The hotel is an architectural treasure trove of French Renaissance, Victorian and Art Deco features and so the wedding dresses we chose needed to reflect this whilst still maintaining a modern, cutting-edge style in bridal fashion. With its resplendent grand staircase and ornate Art Deco cornicing and hand finished in gold leaf there is style oozing from every corner of this magnificent building! And that’s why it made the perfect backdrop for our dresses and for this incredible shoot.”

When choosing the gowns for this shoot, we wanted to match the venue’s timeless glamour and what better choice than British designer Sassi Holford. With luxury fabrics, her designs blend understated elegance with effortless glamour. Featuring styles Katie, Phoebe, Sophia, Tara and Anabel.
