    We met at the Crabmill Pub 10 years ago

    My dress was the first one I tried one and I knew it was the one! I still tried on another 5 just to be sure

    What music did you choose for the ceremony? Why?

    We didn’t chose for the ceremony but for our first dance the band played “you are the best thing” by Sophie Faith, and the kids joined in with us. They truly are the best thing that’s ever happened to us, which is why we picked that song!

    What were your best decisions for the wedding?

    We had originally had a big wedding booked but found out dream family home, so we decided to do a more low-key wedding. It was the best decision we made! We had the best day, surrounded by love and so much laughter and got to go home to our lovely new home after!

    What advice do you have for other brides?

    Remember your wedding day is about celebrating your love for one another with your closest people. Don’t get too caught up in worrying if you have done enough or done what is expected at weddings. The people who love you will just be happy to be with you on your special, making memories with you.

    What was your budget?

    Did you make any cost savings, and how?

    We didn’t have a wedding breakfast and just had the ceremony and a night party with food.

    What were your favourite moments?

    The ceremony, getting to walk down the aisle with my two children and Dad and having the most relaxed exchanging of vows. The children, myself and Mat laughed the whole way through it. And after 10 years I could finally say I had the same name as my little family!

    Any funny things happen? Embarrassing moments?

    Isaac (our son) was playing peek a boo behind the curtains as the vows were being read, made it very hard to concentrate!!

    What were the challenges of planning and organising the wedding?

    No regrets! It was the perfect day for us!

    I just want to say a massive thank you to the TDR team, they were perfect in helping me find my dream dress. There was not one problem, from choosing the dress, to picking it up after the alternations. You are all so lovely and kept my excitement alive every time I came to try on the dress!

    Who to bring?

    When shopping for your wedding dress is it really important to bring those with you that will help you make the important decision of choosing your dress. Often, you can feel as though you don’t want to ‘leave anybody out’ and we completely get this, this is a new journey for you and you want to make sure everyone is involved BUT, it is so important to remember that this is YOUR day, YOUR dress and you must choose the dress that feels right for YOU and YOU only. When bringing an entourage of people, often there can be an overwhelming amount of opinions and it can be really difficult to stay focused and be in touch with your feelings, so it is our advice to think very wisely about who you choose to bring with you.

    However, we do offer an ‘open door policy’ here at TDR which means you can visit us as many times as you like to try on your dress, so you are more than welcome to bring your friends, family, bridesmaids etc. to TDR Bridal Birmingham to show off your gorgeous dress, once you have chosen!

    Let’s Talk Underwear

    There is no set rule to underwear, but our recommendation is nude, seamless underwear. You can opt for a strapless bra, however, this is usually not required when trying dresses on as most bridal gowns will already have a built-in bra.

     

    Set a budget – don’t hide this!

    Every single bride has a budget and no matter what this is, it’s still very important to set this, so that you have something to stick to. Your stylist will want you to communicate this budget with them so that when they are choosing gowns for you, they can be respectful of your budget, the last thing we want to do is pick a gown out of your price range.
    Just to give you an idea of pricing, our dress prices start at around £800 and go up to £3500 with the average price of our dresses are £1500-£1800. Alterations are always a separate charge on top of the price of your dress, so always allow for this within your budget!

    Sizing

    Please don’t worry about sample sizing, we are an inclusive bridal shop and ensure our sample sizes range from size 8 to size 32, with over 80 dresses Size 18 and above, so we really do have every style from sleeved to low-back to long train wedding dresses to fitted to princess ball gowns, all in a wide variety of sizes. You must also remember that these samples are just for you to try on, not the actual dress you buy. The process for sizing is that we will measure you and order your dress to your nearest size, we have dress clamps, pins and panels to ensure we can fit you into our sample as best as possible so you can visualize your dress!

    Who will help me?

    We have over 400 gowns in store and it can feel extremely overwhelming when you first begin, some brides either relish in the opportunity to have so many dresses to try on, however, there are other brides that will feel quite daunted by this and not know where to start, but this is what your stylist is there for! Again, we know this is a new experience for our brides, this is why our advice is to let your stylist guide you. Start by choosing the dresses that stand out to you, try different styles (even just to rule certain styles out) and then, by this stage, your stylist will have begun understanding your style preferences, needs and how to dress your body and you will be amazed at how easy this process becomes.

    What if I don’t know what I like?

    If you are a bride that has scrolled the internet to try and find your perfect style but still hasn’t got an idea of what style to go for, how to fit your style in with your venue.
    what shape will suit your body etc. THIS IS NORMAL! It is absolutely fine to feel this way, sometimes this is often better. Sometimes brides can get fixated on a certain style of dress and when they try this style on, it may not particularly suit them and they struggle with this concept, so, our advice is to always be open minded, be open to trying new styles and be open to taking advice from your stylist.

    Will I buy on my first appointment?

    Hopefully! It is 100% completely normal to find your dress on your first appointment, we have well-trained, experienced stylists that know exactly how to guide you through the process of finding your gown during your appointment time. Do not be scared by this thought! The fact we have over 400 gowns in store is a huge bonus to our brides, as it means we are like 5 shops in 1! We have carefully selected gowns in store, in all sizes, styles and themes, there is literally a dress for every single bride.

    Lastly BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY! You can expect to HAVE FUN!!!

    How many wedding dresses did you try on before you found the one? 

    I tried on about twenty wedding dresses before I found the one, which was a beautiful fit and flare wedding dress by Ronald Joyce with fabulous sheer back detail.

    Yes we chose cornflower blue for our bridesmaids and pretty pink, which were features within the wedding flowers and details.

    How many dresses did you try on before you found the one?

    Overall, I probably tried on around 10 dresses in 2019 and then had a wobble in 2021 and tried on more but still kept with the dress I wore on my wedding day.

    Was there a theme or colour scheme for your wedding?

    Our theme was gold and white with a ‘Happily Ever After’ theme because I’m a massive Disney fan – we got engaged in Magic Kingdom Walt Disney World. Our Venue Stylist Subira did a great job because I changed the colour scheme so many times over the two years!

    How did you decorate your venue?

    SK Events decorated the venue with a theme of white roses and orchid flowers. Me and my best friend Stacey also decorated the night before the wedding with lots of little bits I had made over the years.

     

    What music did you choose for the ceremony? Why?

    Being a massive Westlife fan I had to have them form a part of our day, somewhat to Matt’s disgust! The song is called I Do, it holds a special place in my heart because it also was one of my late Nanny Wyn’s favourites. She would always play it on a Sunday when cooking the Sunday roast and say to me “Our Natalie, when you get married walk down the aisle to this song, it’s beautiful”. And I did for her!

    What advice do you have for other brides?

    You have waited for this day since you were a little girl. Embrace every moment and if things don’t go to plan on the day it doesn’t matter. Always remember the reason why this day is happening, to celebrate you and your partner. Take a moment before you walk down the aisle and take it all in, this is a beautiful moment then walk down the aisle ,hold your head up and smile, you will get some great photos from this!
    Also if you have a flower girl or page boy and their mum is also a bridesmaid get the mum to walk down the aisle before their child, because when she is at her seat she too gets to see her little one walk down the aisle, which is a lovely touch my sister loved and cried at.

    No regrets with the wedding at all. I would do it all again tomorrow!

    In hindsight really, I wish I didn’t put so much pressure on myself when choosing my dress. Don’t get me wrong I love my dress but at the time I was going through my first lot of IVF and like any person going through fertility treatment you always look to the what ifs, what if I’m pregnant on my wedding day, will it fit, what if this treatment doesn’t work and I’m left with a dress that I thought I was going to be pregnant in? All these things were going thought my mind. But the lovely Della at TDR was so supportive when my treatment again didn’t work in 21 and I visited the shop again. She was so lovely, reassuring and helped me love my dress again! I will always be thankful of this.

    An independent, Birmingham-based wedding dress shop has recently celebrated its 15th anniversary and re-launched with a whole new look to celebrate. Guests at an exclusive evening event at the boutique – including the local mayor and many of the UK’s best bridal designers – gathered for a day full of joy, which was rounded off with a catwalk presentation showcasing some of the boutique’s 400+ gowns. Local brides and businesses were invited into the fully air conditioned boutique and treated to wonderful drinks and canapés and a fabulous cake by local cake designer The Couture Cake Company.

    How did you meet, and when? We met through a friend 14 years ago, we have been together 8 years.

    How many dresses did you try on before you found the one? Approximately 30 😂 I wanted something figure hugging, slightly sexy but super classy, with an added wow factor. Pearl did exactly that and the cape just added so much drama ❤

    Was there a theme or colour scheme for your wedding? Neutrals and whites. Orchids palms and roses

    How did you decorate your venue? We went with a boho ethereal theme with lots of texture, classy golds, beiges and neutrals. A huge arch that was the centre piece and gave the wow factor we wanted.

    What music did you choose for the ceremony? We had a harpist playing and singing for an intimate feel to the day. I walked down the aisle to Claire singing and playing her version of “falling like the stars” by James Arthur. It is such a beautiful song with meaningful lyrics 🤍

    What were your best decisions for the wedding? The decor, the venue and the fact we were in Ibiza which in turn meant we didn’t have a huge amount of guests which gave us chance to be able to spend time with all of our guests without feeling like we’d missed people etc.

    What advice do you have for other brides? Embrace every single moment of the day it goes so fast and make sure you make all decisions based on what you want as a posed to what you think will make other people happy.

    What was your budget?(Optional) don’t set one 😂 you’ll only exceed it no matter how big or small!

    Did you make any cost savings, and how? We made our own buttonholes and a lot of stationary/signs ourselves.

    What were your favourite moments? Getting ready in the morning with the girls is such a vibe! It really helps you relax and sets the tone for the day. Seeing my husband at the end of the aisle for the first time was also super special. Everything – the whole day is just magical!

    Any funny things happen?Embarrassing moments? The best man got super drunk, which in turn made his speech really funny!

    Did you follow all the traditions? I tried to follow a few traditions eg. Having my dad walk me down the aisle, not spending the night before together, top table setup etc, but equally made all decisions based on what we wanted as a posed to what we “should” do.
