Created by British designer Josephine Parkhill, previously of Ellis Bridals. Her debut collection has a sophisticated elegance, blending traditional old-world grandeur with a timeless interpretation of femininity. Taking her inspiration from the 1950s and designers like Eva Lendel, Nicole Milano and Suzanne Neville, Josephine’s signature style is clear to see but this is bridal design at a new level. British-designed wedding dresses without the price tag – Josephine Scott bridal gowns retail between £1,800 and £4,500 and are available in UK sizes 4-18.

Queen Elizabeth & Prince Phillip – A tribute to a truly Royal Marriage

There are certain big events in history and our lives, where everyone remembers where they were at the time the news broke. This will be true for decades, as we come to terms with the sad news of the passing of the nation’s beloved Queen Elizabeth the second.

Along with the rest of the nation, everyone at TDR Bridal is saddened to hear the news of her majesty’s death. A resolute lady and inspiring presence, she has led the country through some of its darkest and its greatest hours. Always respectful, with grace and a genuine caring warmth, along with a twinkle in the eye, a hint of her great sense of humour.

She has always been in our lives and will be sadly missed, but she will surely be warmed by the heavenly staircase welcome she will receive from her beloved Prince Phillip, to whom she was married to for 73 years, until the time of his sad death in 2021.

Elizabeth and Phillip

So many memoriam speeches and articles have mentioned the enduring love affair of Elizabeth and Phillip and how desperately she felt his loss, though she still heroically did her public duties through her sadness.

They were married on Thursday 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey in London, which has been the wedding venue of choice for many a royal wedding. They first set eyes on each other at another Royal event, in 1934 at the wedding of Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark to Prince George, Duke of Kent.

Princess Elizabeth’s beautiful wedding dress was designed by the venerable Sir Norman Hartnell. His design was approved by her Majesty in mid-August, which was less than three months before the wedding.

That Dress

Princess Elizabeth’s wedding dress design was an A-Line gown with a fitted bodice, and a classic “at the time” heart-shaped neckline with a low v style pointed waist. Made from silk and decorated with crystals and 10,000 pearls.

The dress featured a floor-length panelled skirt and had a 15-foot silk tulle full court train, which was attached at the shoulders This beautiful dress is now on display at Buckingham Palace.

We wonder how many of you knew that due to government rationing measures in place following World War Two, Princess Elizabeth had to use her clothing ration coupons to pay for her gorgeous wedding dress

As Queen she became known for her careful spending and was well known to recycle garments and household items. What really set the dress apart were the exquisite pearl and diamanté, encrusted star flowers, roses, jasmine blossoms and ears of wheat embroidered on the gown’s bodice, full skirts and ethereal silk tulle train. Princess Elizabeth’s outfit was completed with a pair of ivory duchesse satin high-heeled sandals, which were trimmed with silver and seed pearl buckles.

The organisation and logistics must have been enormous in planning a wedding of that magnitude, but at least her majesty had one of the most spectacular wedding venues for the wedding reception any bride could wish for in Buckingham Palace.

Her wish to always be near her people was apparent as the couple simply honeymooned at their beloved Balmoral castle.

On Monday September 19th 2022 at 11am, the Queen will be laid to rest, having dutifully served the country for over 70 years as our regent.

The day is marked with a national bank holiday, so that as many people in the UK and across the world can pay their respects to our wonderful dear departed Queen.

We wonder if Phillip will see her again in that stunning wedding dress or as she was in her final years. In whatever way they greet each other, their love is now eternal.

TDR Bridal wishes to convey our deepest sympathies and respects to The Royal Family and will be closed on Monday the 19th September, while we all pay our tributes to this incredible inspiration who has touched all our lives. Sleep well your majesty.

How did you meet? I met Matt through Facebook in 2011. I slid into his DMs and the rest is history!

How many dresses did you try on before you found the one?

Overall, I probably tried on around 10 dresses in 2019 and then had a wobble in 2021 and tried on more but still kept with the dress I wore on my wedding day.

Was there a theme or colour scheme for your wedding?

Our theme was gold and white with a ‘Happily Ever After’ theme because I’m a massive Disney fan – we got engaged in Magic Kingdom Walt Disney World. Our Venue Stylist Subira did a great job because I changed the colour scheme so many times over the two years!

How did you decorate your venue?

SK Events decorated the venue with a theme of white roses and orchid flowers. Me and my best friend Stacey also decorated the night before the wedding with lots of little bits I had made over the years.

What music did you choose for the ceremony? Why?

Being a massive Westlife fan I had to have them form a part of our day, somewhat to Matt’s disgust! The song is called I Do, it holds a special place in my heart because it also was one of my late Nanny Wyn’s favourites. What advice do you have for other brides?

You have waited for this day since you were a little girl. Embrace every moment and if things don’t go to plan on the day it doesn’t matter. Always remember the reason why this day is happening, to celebrate you and your partner. Take a moment before you walk down the aisle and take it all in, this is a beautiful moment then walk down the aisle ,hold your head up and smile, you will get some great photos from this!
Also if you have a flower girl or page boy and their mum is also a bridesmaid get the mum to walk down the aisle before their child, because when she is at her seat she too gets to see her little one walk down the aisle, which is a lovely touch my sister loved and cried at.

Yes, I made my own cake stand with my Dad – this not only saved me hundreds of pounds but also created something lovely with my Dad that I will cherish.

My favourite moment was creating beautiful smoke bomb photos! This is something I’ve always loved and saved endless Pins of, Our Photographer Charlotte created lots of beautiful images of these.

Funny moments were probably Matt not saying the word solemnly correctly in our wedding vows!

Did you follow all the traditions?

The only thing probably we did a bit different was we didn’t have the traditional ‘top table’ – it was just me and Matt.

What were the challenges of planning and organising the wedding?

The only challenge really was Covid and waiting to marry.

No regrets with the wedding at all. I would do it all again tomorrow!

In hindsight really, I wish I didn’t put so much pressure on myself when choosing my dress. Don’t get me wrong I love my dress but at the time I was going through my first lot of IVF and like any person going through fertility treatment you always look to the what ifs, what if I’m pregnant on my wedding day, will it fit, what if this treatment doesn’t work and I’m left with a dress that I thought I was going to be pregnant in? All these things were going thought my mind. But the lovely Della at TDR was so supportive when my treatment again didn’t work in 21 and I visited the shop again. She was so lovely, reassuring and helped me love my dress again! I will always be thankful of this.

How did you meet, and when? We met through a friend 14 years ago, we have been together 8 years.

How many dresses did you try on before you found the one? Approximately 30 😂 I wanted something figure hugging, slightly sexy but super classy, with an added wow factor. Pearl did exactly that and the cape just added so much drama ❤

Was there a theme or colour scheme for your wedding? Neutrals and whites. Orchids palms and roses

How did you decorate your venue? We went with a boho ethereal theme with lots of texture, classy golds, beiges and neutrals. A huge arch that was the centre piece and gave the wow factor we wanted.

What music did you choose for the ceremony? We had a harpist playing and singing for an intimate feel to the day. I walked down the aisle to Claire singing and playing her version of “falling like the stars” by James Arthur. It is such a beautiful song with meaningful lyrics 🤍

What were your best decisions for the wedding? The decor, the venue and the fact we were in Ibiza which in turn meant we didn’t have a huge amount of guests which gave us chance to be able to spend time with all of our guests without feeling like we’d missed people etc.

What advice do you have for other brides? Embrace every single moment of the day it goes so fast and make sure you make all decisions based on what you want as a posed to what you think will make other people happy.

What was your budget?(Optional) don’t set one 😂 you’ll only exceed it no matter how big or small!

Did you make any cost savings, and how? We made our own buttonholes and a lot of stationary/signs ourselves.

What were your favourite moments? Getting ready in the morning with the girls is such a vibe! It really helps you relax and sets the tone for the day. Seeing my husband at the end of the aisle for the first time was also super special. Everything – the whole day is just magical!

Did you follow all the traditions? I tried to follow a few traditions eg. Having my dad walk me down the aisle, not spending the night before together, top table setup etc, but equally made all decisions based on what we wanted as a posed to what we “should” do.

“So there’s no set “rule” to this, every bride is different. It ultimately depends on you and your individual circumstances.

You might want to be super organised like some of our brides and shop 24-30 months in advance- this gives you longer to plan, organise & budget well for your wedding.

12 – 18 months in advance – The majority of our brides do this as it gives us plenty of time for your wedding dress to arrive and for all your fittings to be done.

You might only have 6 – 12 months because you got a great deal on a shorter lead time with your venue? This is no problem for us at all. We will still have plenty of time to have your dress made & delivered to us plus we have the added benefit of 4 onsite seamstresses so you’re guaranteed to have your dress fitted perfectly in time for your special day.

What were your best decisions for the wedding?

Having a small family wedding was our best decision – it made it more special to us and more enjoyable and relaxing. We didn’t have the added pressure of pleasing multiple people.

What advice do you have for other brides?

Relax and whatever happens happens! Once the moment has gone it’s gone be present and take it all in don’t worry about anyone else other than yourself and your husband to be.

Seeing my dad on the staircase and his face fill with pride and joy! Then walking out with my husband knowing he hadn’t run away 😂

Not being close to the venue made it more difficult to find local and trusted companies for our big day.

After saying YES to my dress 2018 to finally wearing it in 2022 thank you for all your support and courage throughout the whole process. You’ve been most amazing from start to finish nothing was ever too much and you’re all the most beautiful bunch of women. You made me feel like the most beautiful lady in the world even when my dress didn’t fit, your words of encouragement guided me to lose the weight and remain focused, and we did it! Thank you for everything ❤

How did you meet?:

James and I met in reception, when we were four years old. We went to school together and after school we met again on New Year 2016, the rest is history.

How many dresses did you try on before you found the one?

I came into the shop once before and tried on five dresses with no idea what I even liked. When I returned in April 2021, I tried on another five and kept putting off the dress I ended up choosing, thinking I wouldn’t like it as much. It was so different to what I thought I wanted.

Was there a theme or colour scheme for your wedding?

Black and white monochrome.

How did you decorate your venue?

The amazing Etiquette Events totally embraced my vision, put their stamp on it and created the most elegant and stylish décor I have ever seen!

What music did you choose for the first dance? Why?

We chose Can’t help falling in love – the Kina Grannis version because James proposed to this song.

What were your best decisions for the wedding?

I loved everything about the day, all the big things were amazing, but the best decision we made was taking five minutes out here and there to just go and walk round the grounds together and have a prosecco alone after the ceremony – just to have that time to celebrate us.

What advice do you have for other brides?

The day really does go far too quickly, so take five minutes here and there with your partner to embrace it. Sit back and take it all in, when else do you have everyone you love in the same room celebrating you!? You will never prevent the grass stains on the shoes and on the dress so just be OK with it. Be organised before so you can completely relax on the day and if anything goes wrong it literally will not matter in the moment. Lastly, book a videographer – you will not regret it!

Did you make any cost savings, and how?

We had a graphic designer friend who designed all of our stationery and invitations. My stepfather made our cake stand and signage stands because he is a welder. Call in all the favours from your creative family and friends! We also bartered with pretty much everyone and most suppliers were very flexible to meet budgets, don’t ask, don’t get! And a huge one for us… We wanted the huge three tier cake but didn’t want to pay for the huge three tier cake. So we had two tiers (this was enough for our guests to have a portion each) then we had made a fake tier, which the magician Nadia (Pretty Tasty) covered in icing and it looked identical… No-one would have known! Huge three tier cake for half the price!

What were your favourite moments? Straight after we got married, we went into the back room and there was a prosecco waiting for us, I remember us high fiving and just being so happy we were married. Another highlight of course was the shot cart and the CO2 guns, that was wild!

Did you follow all the traditions?

Not at all, we did lots of untraditional things and lots of unique things, we completely planned the day for us, and everything was personalised for us. As a complete bonus everyone else loved it too!

What were the challenges of planning and organising the wedding?

Working 9-5 haha! Honestly it was tough but was worth every hour put into it.

Any regrets? Anything you would have done differently, or included with hindsight?

No regrets at all, it was perfect! I would have probably got ready slightly earlier If I got to do it again as the last hour before the wedding went so quickly, I was ready to enjoy a glass of prosecco with the girls right before and then remembered I needed 20 minutes with the registrars! So be ready with an hour at least to go, I think. Oh and I would have practiced the first dance, we didn’t think about it and that was such a funny, awkward two minutes with everyone staring at you, we pretty much giggled the whole time as was like, what do we do!?
